Our AIM Foundation brings vital medical services to Mbewa villagers

Dunedin, United States - March 29, 2023 / Our AIM Foundation /

Over four years, the successful operation of Our Aim Foundation’s clinic in Tongozala has impacted more than two million lives providing 100% free health care and pharmacy services for over 300,000 patients and reducing the fatality rate by 40%.

Signed on lined notebook paper with black ink, the senior group officials and chief of the village of Mbewa are doing all they can to support Our Aim Foundation’s efforts in constructing a health clinic that is accessible to villagers. The community of Mbewa sent thousands of requests to Our AIM Foundation stressing the urgency and desperate need for a health clinic for their residents. Ultimately, an accessible health clinic will have a significant impact on the overall health and well-being of the village residents of Mbewa.

The community living in Mbewa value oneness and unity. During Ramadan, Muslims around the world engage in intentional selfless actions. Ramadan teaches individuals to practice self-discipline, sacrifice, and empathy. Our AIM Foundation is running multiple health campaigns throughout Ramadan as part of its Ramadan Resolutions Series.

The Meeting with the Chiefs

The team at Our AIM Foundation met with community leaders and carved out a plan to successfully construct a health clinic for the villagers of Mbewa. Our AIM Foundation is working hand in hand with the Malawi Government to ensure the land surveys and ordinances are up-to-date and they are following all local policies and regulations. The Minister of Health of Malawi has also spoken about the impact of Our Aim Foundation’s work in Malawi.

The Mbewa community has a strong passion for this project and is providing two acres of land space and molded burnt bricks to aid in the construction of the clinic.

The Plan

The Our AIM team traveled to Mbewa and conducted a land and survey assessment to map out the best plan to construct the proposed health clinic. Our AIM Foundation has outlined a floorplan that will include separate male and female areas, a private nurse and doctor’s office, a break room/kitchen, accessible toilets, exam, and treatment rooms, and even a short-stay room. This clinic will help thousands of families in Mbewa that face daily health hardships such as having to walk 24 hours to gain access to a doctor.

The team at Our AIM Foundation has already mapped out how to access Mbewa by road to begin construction of the health clinic. The plan is to utilize local resources such as timber, stone, and clay to build the clinic.

About Mbewa

Mbewa village is located in the Central Region of Malawi on the outskirts of the Mchinji District. It is home to approximately 5,000 people and has only one under-five clinic that operates once a month on the first Thursday of each month.

Currently, in Mbewa, health services are extremely difficult to access placing the nearest hospital about 15km away. The roads connecting Mbewa and surrounding health centers are heavily battered making it difficult even for vehicles to access.

Next Steps

There is a spirit of oneness among the people of Mbewa and that spirit is encapsulated within the values of Ramadan and allowing the team at Our AIM Foundation to build a health clinic that will give residents access to health necessities.

Thousands of families in Mbewa go through health hardships daily and this Ramadan season, you can contribute to the construction and maintenance of the Mbewa health clinic through a donation or zakat. Your contribution and willingness to partner with Our AIM Foundation and the Mbewa community go toward essential parts of the clinic such as:

  • Installation of Electronic Medical Records
  • Construction of a reception building area and treatment rooms
  • Establishing a pharmacy section
  • Sponsorship of Medical Equipment.
  • Equipping the building with Solar panel
  • and more.

While the team at Our AIM Foundation team visited Mbewa in preparation for the building of the health clinic, they also split their time to assess a nearby primary school in disrepair that lacked adequate facilities for students. The team at Our AIM Foundation is constantly growing and evolving to improve health conditions and the quality of life of ultra-poor populations around the world.
